Lloyd C. Douglas'
Home for Christmas
Dramatized by Anne Coulter Martens
Directed by David Potter
Lloyd C. Douglas’ Home for Christmas is a wonderful story of a
group of people brought together for Christmas and explores the often
typical relationship issues seen in most families, providing both humor
and a thought-provoking message about the importance of family.
The play centers around the Clayton family whose mother isn’t well and
for whom this may be her last Christmas. Bringing everyone back home
hasn’t been easy, but the youngest daughter knew it was important, even if
Mother wouldn’t let her tell them why. As the various relationships and
issues therein are revealed, the importance of family and friends becomes
apparent to both the characters and the audience.
“I remember reading this play last year and having it touch me
emotionally. The theme of this play is forgiveness and reconciliation and
it really shows how lack of communication can lead to unnecessary
misunderstandings that can last a lifetime. There are many broken and
shattered families within our community, and for them, getting together
with relatives at Christmas time can be very painful. I think many people
will identify with the Clayton family.” - Michelle Potter, playing Nan
